90% of the book is dedicated to patios and paths, 8% to walls, and 2 pages in total to garden steps and stairs. It is very good for the DIY individual who wants an alternative to a concrete patio and the book does an excellent job of providing information on site preparation and materials, tools, and techniques.

I do a lot of volunteer landscaping projects building both walks and wall.I found that this book had a lot of wonderful color photos of stone work for walks and walls.It is good to gain ideas and perspective about different projects.I added this book to my library.

I will be re-posting this post for 4 other books I bought just like this because they all show WONDERFUL information and pictures for different types of projects.All these books, Including this one show you How, Why, and Ideas. Their might be other books out their Better/Cheaper, but I haven't found them yet and so I am just sharing that I am VERY satisfied with this book and a must for the first time home owner or first time a person wants to tackle these projects

I bought 3 different well reviewed "stone" books and this one was easily the best of those. Lots of well taken pictures of genuinely _different_ styles and types of stone patios and walkways. The other books are shorter and have fewer good pictures. Also this book was best at describing the pros and cons of different types of stone and stone building. None of these books explain _exactly_ how to build stone patios and walls and pathways by yourself but this one has more detail than most out there.

Book called Landscaping with Stone, 2nd Edition is an excellent book to read specially for home owners planning to remodel their backyard & front yard. It des guess different types of stone to use & gives a person ideas where to use the stone in the yard. I gave the book review a 5 star rating.

My 11 y/o spent 20 minutes flipping through the book, and had two suggestions for the yard. Exactly what I was looking for...ideas! Nice photo's.

Love the book I thought it would have more patterns for sidewalks but it had some great other ideas that I didn't even think about

Not all bad, just not as great as it could be. Worth getting? Yes.

I would not expect more. I am satisfied.

It's a good read!And for a history book, the ending nabbed me. It set me into a fit of laughter -- just you wait.

The awesome accomplishments is almost insignificant without the story and events that lead to Panama 1914.The global importance of this endeavor is often minimized in the textbooks of today. The author has re-vitilized the event by allowing the reader to become involved in the process. Using photos and newspaper accounts, the reader is immersed in the daily struggle and underlying international intrigue that shaped the U.S. dominance in the region as a super power.The struggle is magnified, viewed and understood by the description of the physical and emotional impact of such a large project in a time of turmoil. Facts are presented in a way that engage the reader and transports them to a different time but keeps them aware of the seemingly insurmountable obstacles delaying the completion. I came away with a greater knowledge and understanding of history and the price paid for the final outcome. I highly recommend this book and the story being chronicled.

Lots of stimulating accounts regarding the hardships experienced by earlier visitors to the area such as the devastating diseases that effectively wiped out the Scottish colony led by William Paterson in the Darién Province and the numerous episodes of suicides by distraught Chinese workers attempting to forge the first railroad across the Isthmus of Panama. I also enjoyed learning of the golden artifacts found in the ancient graves of Chirqui as well as the courageous efforts by doctors and soldiers alike in their battle against malaria, bubonic plague, yellow fever, etc. by risking life & limb exposing themselves to contaminated clothing and bedding of the deceased to uncover ways to combat the diseases. Excellent photos/illustrations in greater numbers toward the final third of the book only added to my enjoyment so definitely have to say this was a rewarding book especially if you're a history buff and are wanting to learn more about the Panama Canal. Very good book!

This started well, with the story of the various companies and people that wanted to build a canal across the isthmus of Panama, supposedly partially drawn from newspaper accounts of the day. But even this interesting section suffered from poor editing, with contradictory elements practically on the same page and incorrrect word use that I really doubt would have been suffered at any newspaper at the turn of the century. And then the book delves into financial and supply detail that left me skipping lots of pages. There are some wonderful nuggets of stories here but you have to hunt through a lot of mud to find them.

Having recently cruised the Panama Canal, I was interested in learning more more about the early planning for this 'big dig'. This helped me better understand the tremendous problems in connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans by way of way of a water route. I would have given it 5 stars except that it sometimes becomes bogged down in too many details. I do recommend it as an enlightening history of this important venture.

Good book by Ken Rossignol. I have only one complaint. I am not sure if the problem was due to the conversion to ebook format or what. The pictures and other graphics included were a bit hard to see on my tablet. Again, these might be easier with the printed version of the book, but I am not sure. I found the rest of the book quite interesting and I learned a lot more about the Panama Canal and its history that I did not know before.

It's always fascinating to trace the origins and development of great projects -- the space race, the transcontinental railroads and the Panama Canal, among them. Being a fan of older histories, I particularly enjoy the author's "massaging" of source material for today's readers. It's a good primer for travel or casual reading.My only real criticism is the need for a more robust exploration of the sources. Otherwise, well done. And great use of contemporary photos!

I have been to Panama and also gone through the Canal. In spite all the speakers I heard, I never learned a small portion of what I learned from Ken Rossignol's book. This book is not for the light reader. I wished for a large map of the area so that I could follow along as the names and countries changed. I recommend it for someone who really enjoys reading about history.

I'm a volunteer working with an adult English Language Learner. His English is actually pretty good but figuring out what Americans are saying is a bit of a challenge. In addition to the regular old ordinary vagaries of English, there is the issue of slang. For example, in our second session he asked for help figuring out phrases like "How's it going?" or "What's up?" which seem to bear no relation to "How are you?" This book is working very well for us.

I liked the content and use of this book. I thought some of the words were a little outdated but language changes daily, so it was expected. My students didn't enjoy this book as much as I did teaching it.

AFTER READING, GAVE IT TO A FRIEND THAT WAS TEACHING ENGLISH TO ADULT LATINOS. Learning any language ... Out in the real world∂ encountering slang is confusing.

I am taking my time reading this book... one chapter a day. I searched for this book after completing a 5-day reading plan by the author in my YouVersion Bible app. I loved the reading plan and wondered if there might be a corresponding book. This is that book! As a longtime horse owner and rider, I appreciate the spiritual insights based on observations and interactions with horses. I look forward to each chapter and find the verses and insights helpful. They give me good subjects to meditate on daily.

This is a wonderful devotional, written plain, straight-forward....but really tells it like it is. It's not all fluff, it really speaks to the heart. Yes it is horse-related but this would be a perfect book for anyone looking for encouragement and understanding. She writes about every day problems and how they relate to different passages in the Bible. I saw the author on RFD and I think they ought to put a copy of the DVD with the book. A man called into the show talking about the problems going on in the farming community with low prices, high inputs and high suicide rates. This book would be great encouragement for someone going thru emotions that could end their life.I love this devotional so much that I'm fixing to order my 5th and 6th copies, I've been handing them out as gifts to my friends and family as birthdays come along. God is blessing so many people thru this book!!!

I cannot express how much I love this book. The devotional and horse reference combination is perfectly wonderful. I have already recommended this book to others. I have had devotionals with an equine theme before but this one is by far the best. Plus it is hardback which is nice and the pictures inside are beautiful. I look forward to reading it each day. Even if you do not have interactions with horses you can still get a lot out of this book, from the bible references to the prayers at the end. Read this book.

Cara’s devotions, related to the love she has for her horses, have been a true blessing to me. The photography is spectacular. If you love horses, this book is a must-have! The lessons learned of a God-centered life are profound. Many of her devotions inspired a poem in my heart for that day!

As an animal lover, God has often touched my heart and taught me lessons through my pets and nature. I feel as though I've met a kindred spirit reading this devotional. The stories bring back memories and make me smile. I bought two copies---one for me and one for a friend whose horses are her family.

Wonderful devotional book for horse lovers. Simply written. Cara writes about her everyday experiences with horses that horse owners can relate to and ties it in with God's scriptures for our daily walks with him. I love this book and am so glad I bought it. It is a must have for horse owners or people who love horses. This book would be a great gift for a horse lover, too. The photos that are tied in with each devotional are beautiful. Can't say enough about this book! Thanks Cara for writing such a beautiful devotonal book.

Alexis Hall's benchmark excellent writing, humor and character development. Written from first person point of view of Arden, flamboyant young man who we meet the weeks before his finals in his college senior term. He is gradually building up to the post-grad crisis: what the heck do you do with a degree in English Literature? He accidentally talks with Caspian, and there is a warmth and connection that surprises them both, Caspian being a very rich alumni of the university.I very much enjoy Hall's writing style, as usual, the work has a smoothness and intelligence in prose. I really like Hall's way with first person point of view and with dialogue. This book follows a trope (as indicated subtly in the title) then dissects it partially. One shift in the trope: the 'poor' person's character seems stronger to me, and definitely more likable, intelligent and less naive than often portrayed in billionaire love interests. So Arden is vulnerable, a little goofy and sweet, but decisive and sexually proactive, and he acts as the pursuer, in many ways, in this first volume of three. He seeks out a more intense connection with Caspian, including fulfilling fantasies of a more BDSM nature. There is classic romance action (explicit sex, perks of being a billionaire's guy, misunderstandings). There are many deliberate 'shout outs' to many familiar stories in this genre (50 shades; pretty woman, Disney princesses). For a straightforward romance, focused solely on the developing relationship of the couple, it was enriched by family interactions and beginning exposure of mysterious personal hurt history. The prologue, for example, is never fully explained....yet.But for those piqued by curiosity for this approach, beware! This volume gets us through a nice introduction with Arden St. Ives (loved him!), some shadowy glimpses of Caspian and his problems, and some family interactions for both (both fun and unsettling). We learn more about Arden since we are in his head, but the two haven't really shared much personally yet with each other. This volume gets us steps closer to 'relationship'....but they have some work to do. Not slow burn (given Arden's sexual ease) but still walls to take down, secrets and hurts to share, and a better sense of Caspian's actual ability to change as he would like. Fingers crossed. For those wanting an HEA, this volume gets us to a tentative HFN.No bondage and very limited s/m in this book (except some self inflicted moments). Except the short mysterious prologue which has brief heavy s/m but doesn't include the MCs. Arden and Caspian do some fantasy sharing about BDSM. Arden does find himself very responsive to dominance and dirty talk, though, so I imagine a step up in future volumes!Highly recommend. Minimal words missing/extra, otherwise well edited.Sexy scale 1-5=3These guys have explicit sex, and sexually tense interactions. They are steamy, but we experience from Arden's POV, and he isn't always fully getting what he desires.Humor scale 1-5=4Hall's humor works for me, from Caspian's cluelessness about pop culture to Arden's sparkly t-shirts with mottos. Loved the discussion of Disney princesses (and princes). Hall gets a bonus star for humor for me.Angst scale 1-5=2Romantic miscommunication cause misery, and we learn of personal hurt history for one MC, and some family history for both. Details limited as of yet, so not too sad. See bottom of review for possible trigger/spoilerLikable MC's 1-5=4I love Arden, and though he has a few flails, he is relatively clear about what he wants. Caspian? I am intrigued...and he is very hot in romantic villain hero way. Arden refers to him as Darcy-like in Caspian's "I tried to forget about you" moment. I think I will like them even better together when they are on the same page.I wanted to highlight Arden's city stroll with Caspian's sister, a little glowing taste of self destructive hedonistic melancholy. Caspian and his family=?Also, I hope Hall gives us more details into the journal articles that Arden wrote in college and is writing now. Would love to get a little deeper into Arden's work context and product.Like the sound of How to Bang?Then I recommendAlexis Hall's For Real, and other books in the Spires series.I will come back and recommend others....need to think about it. If I would have known this was a 50 shades look-a-like I would have passed. But in all the reviews I read it didn't come up until I really went searching for it. There were things I liked about the book, mainly Arden, but so much I did not like about it too, mainly Caspian. Arden is such a lovable guy, but I found it hard to believe he was so naive about Caspian and his aloofness, since the author alludes to all the sex he's had. This story is told from Arden's POV. He lacks self esteem, but is acutely aware of his submissive nature. He falls for Caspian without knowing him at all. They only meet a few times and Caspian isn't even very nice to him. He gives Arden a few nicely spoken words to keep him coming back. And don't get me started on their first full sex scene. It was written so poorly I thought I'd missed a couple of pages. I just about gave up at this point. But no...it got worse. Caspian moves Arden into a great place he owns, not his home, and Arden never asks or wonders about where he lives?There is some good writing here. Arden's self awareness is pretty funny at times, if not sad too. I did have trouble with the sentence structure at times making me go back an reread many times.

And now comes the dreadful wait for the next book. I'm seriously addicted to Alexis Hall and to the characters he created in this glorious book of his.Here we meet the very likable and self-deprecating, 20 year old Arden, and the icily beautiful, self-made billionaire, Caspian Hart. I have to say, that their initial set-up for this tale reminded me a bit of that one book at everyone loves to hate about the recent college grad and the troubled millionaire who doesn't like to be touched and is very domineering. Yes, that one that was made into a movie. But let's not think about that.Let me repeat, I LOVED THIS BOOK. Arden was delightfully endearing and lovable. His intelligence combined with naïveté and openness captured me. I found Caspian less approachable and much more of an enigma--which makes sense since the book is written from Arden's POV. The two contrive to have an arrangement in which they're more than casual lovers, but less than boyfriends. Arden wants more. Caspian won't give more.I won't provide any spoilers, but I'll just say that the two do come to a sort of HFN--enough of a "sort-of" to make you die to read the next novel. Because I'm really hoping that's where the kinky kicks in.
