I had a hard time finishing this book. This is the first time I read anything from this author, but I’m not new to the genre. The plot is very convoluted; It has games mechanics applied in real life (without an explanation why), also has time travel for some reason, but a very idle time travel plot. In my opinion if you're going to write a time travel book, you have to study and know very well the time period you're setting your story, and that didn’t came through in this book. The time travel only serves to put the MC in a pirates scenario, it would made much more sense if he was in a game.The writing isn’t bad, but is… lazy, for lack of a better adjective. For instance, in the first chapters the Pirates talk like pirates, but later they sound like your regular 21st century folks… it’s lazy.I didn’t like the characters, the MC is a whiny wimp and his development was fast and far-fetched, he didn’t earn much of it. The females characters are only outlined, and any deep they have comes out forced and is expressed throughout exposition and dialogue. They are all tsunderes, and are very annoying. They fell for the MC because he is the MC, there’s no other reason. Again, lazy writing.

This is a great read. Fast paced enough to make it hard to put down. A fun start of what looks to be an awesome series of books. I can't wait to see what happens next to our Hero and his partners. Define twists and turns that I didn't expect.
Love the idea of this book a lot. This book has all kinds of fun ideas, pirate rebellion, strong characters acting in concert, steampunk, and back to the future elements all wrapped around a magic RPG type of setting.
Well written with characters that are interesting and relatable,also good world building. Story progresses at a good pace with no boring parts. Action and sex portions are well done and add to rather detract from the plot.more please
This book was fast paced, full of action, and several surprises. Gamelit elements weren't overdone, just enough to enjoy. I really liked this book and can't wait for #2.
