Review

"Hurricanes are serious business, but Gibbons uses a picture-book format to detail their destructive powers without the information ever becoming too frightening. . . . [An] intriguing introduction." —Booklist        "This informative overview follows a format similar to Tornadoes!. Cartoonlike watercolor images filled with details accompany simple facts, such as the five categories of hurricanes and information about wind speed and surge heights. Maps of where hurricanes occur along with information on the most severe occurrences in American history are followed by details about forecasting and tracking these storms." —School Library Journal

I have a 4 & 3 year old who request to read this each night and has the text memorized. On top of learning about weather and science they have really picked up a lot of geography from this and the Tornados! book by this author and are able to point out states, bodies of water & countries. I cannot reccomended this book enough for kids of all ages!

I always love Gail Gibbons! This is a good book that shows how hurricanes can affect us. Good for lower elementary grades.

My 6 year old grandson is fascinated with weather and storms but primarily tornadoes. He has now taken an interest in hurricanes since he lives in an area which has them. I found this book and a few others for his age and my daughter says he likes them a lot.

This is my son's (age 6) second Gail Gibbons weather-themed book. He loves how she describes each category - making it easy to compare the wind speed, storm surge and damage across the categories. The illustrations are excellent and the story is informative. And we both get a kick out of the fact that the author of a hurricane book is Gail. Highly recommend for any child that is fascinated by weather.

This book tells the story about hurricanes in a childs frame of mind. Nothing too scary or frighting. Very simple but true facts on what they are and how they work. Read it to 5 classes of 2nd graders and it sparked class discussion. Wonderful well written book!

Good book for helping kids cope with natural disasters.

My grandson used this for a report. He loved it.

Really helped cement what we were learning about hurricanes.

Do not buy this book - I have never had a technical book with so many things wrong and code that just doesn't work. The book forum helped some, but it will just be an exercise in frustration. Additionally you spend more time working on things other than Serverless and platforms other than AWS so the title really is misleading. I feel like I've had to figure most of it out myself and I could have done that on my own without a book. I've never been so frustrated, infuriated, and let down with a technical book. I have 10 - 20 other Manning Press books and after this one I'd really think twice and make sure it was going to be what I wanted before buying another one. Most likely would not buy another book from this author.

if you want some more experience with lambda and api gateway, give this a read. if you hate javascript, stay awaypros: Shows an implementation of OpenID connect flow on lambda Good coverage of AWS Api Gatway shows how to effectively work with nodejs npm and lambdacons: doesnt explain openID connect flow and json web tokens well at all heavy and exclusive use of javascript (more advanced and confusing js than "lambda in action book")

If you want to know how to click through the AWS console, buy this book. If you want to understand more abstract use cases and patterns for solving problems using AWS serverless services, do not buy this book

It is fairly educational. What I want to learn more is how the website does the credit card payment transaction. Could author point to some direction or example code would be great.

Peter Sbarski's introduction to Serverless by means of AWS does great justice to the growing movement that is Serverless. As a software professional of nearly a decade, I'm pleased with how this book guides me through this new technological landscape. The book is basically one very large, well crafted tutorial that you can work through at your own pace. Building off of previous chapters, each new chapter reveals something unique about how code is written in the Serverless paradigm. I'm pleased with how concise this "tutorial" was. I'm typically a very picky reader and have very low tolerance for fluff. Many books on tech. wander and add filler content from reference manuals just to hit a page count. Just about everything in this book, however, was worth my time to read.I highly recommend working through the examples in the book as opposed to merely reading them. I was able to confidently work the examples and produce working code just fine. Peter S. seems to have taken great pains in adding lots of detail in the form of screenshots and code snippets. This helped me breeze through both code and configuration (something you get to do a lot more of in the Serverless world). The only caveat for being so rich in detail is that web UI's, command line interfaces, and other such things can change over time and some of the book's details may quickly take on a subtly different form. I encountered a few discrepancies myself, but nothing was tear-your-hair-out bad.I'm very glad I read the book, and I hope to make it out to Peter's ServerlessConf sometime in the near future. Looking forward to more great insights!

Actually I had to post short review.I bought this book in Nov 2017, and was surprised how well material is explained, I come from different "word". C#/MSSQL. But due to support C# by lambda I could write my first POC in a week. Definitely, Lambda is second big shift after S3. And this book is good start point.Thanks.

I would highly recommend this book

This book teaches you the basics of AWS Lambda, AWS API Gateway and other Serverless offerings by building a Serverless Web Application from the ground up. It is a teach by example book, if you will, and does a very good job at it.In my opinion however, there are two major shortcomings in the book that made me drop a star.1. All of the code, examples and setup instructions are only node.js centric. It would have been nice to have the code in at least one other language. If it helps, I have written and hosted all of the code from the book in Java on github. User: shalabh-jaiswal , Repo: serverless-video-transcoder. github.com/shalabh-jaiswal2. The book should have stuck to the AWS platform, using Cognito and DynamoDB instead of Auth0 and Firebase. After all, the title of the book reads: “… on AWS”Having said that, this book will definitely help anyone looking to delve into AWS Serverless technologies.

#425,344 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

The Allied invasion of Normandy that began on 06 June 1944 soon ran into determined German defenses. By late July, the Allies were still largely confined within an enlarged beachhead. That situation was about to change. On 25 July, the U.S. First Army initiated Operation Cobra, the long-awaited breakout from the Normandy beachhead..."Operation Cobra 1944" is an Osprey Campaign Series book, authored by Steven Zaloga with illustrations by Tony Bryan. It recounts the setup to Operation Cobra, the respective opposing commanders, their armies, and their plans. The heart of the narrative is the actual breakout, in which the American Army was finally able to bring to bear their advantage in battlefield mobility and firepower against the German Army. In a rapidly paced 30 day campaign, the course of the war in the West was decisively changed in favor of the Allies. The text is nicely supported by an excellent collection of period photographs, maps, battle diagrams, and modern illustrations. This book can profitably be read in conjunction with another Osprey Campaign Series book, "Caen 1944", which discusses British efforts at the other end of the Normandy lodgment area. Students of the conflict can judge for themselves whether Operation Cobra was "part of the plan" or whether it was a consequence of the British failure to seize the key city of Caen. Recommended.

The Allies, for most of June and July, had fought a punishing battle of attrition without making a lot of progress in Normandy. Bocage country was especially terrible for the Americans. General Bradley and his staff could not let this costly stalemate continue and thought up Operation Cobra to break the stalemate. I've always considered that for many authors writing a book with a 96 page limit could be difficult; this is one such example. I suggest that additional coverage could have been mentioned but the author has done a great job of writing this story under the limitation. This book has the traditional Osprey format of WWII books; the brief introduction of stating the strategic situation and the competent two page chronology is good in setting up the story that follows. The commanders are well represented. For the Germans Kluge, Rommel, Blaskkowitz and Hausser are presented. For the Allies Patton, Collins, Middleton, Bradley and indirectly Eisenhower and Montgomery. Following the commanders, a 14 page description of opposing forces was excellent, covering all the units involved in the operation as well as an abbreviated Order of Battle which included four American Corps and two German Corps. The description of the Allied offensive and the German defensive plans were also good and by this time the reader will have a good understanding of Operation Cobra. The actual offensive is then discussed. This is one of the reasons I like this book for Mr Zaloga spends 56 pages on telling the important campaign that opened the Normandy beachhead and sent our troops to liberating Paris. He does a very good job of describing the action. It begins with the inauspicious bombing tragedy that inflicted 150 casualties on 30th ID and continues with the break through of the German line, the startup of Patton's 3rd Army and the move into Brittany, Mortain, Falaise and the race to the Seine River culminating in the liberation of Paris on August 25th. Prior to Operation Cobra, the author covers the capture of St Lo, showing the importance of taking this critical road junction as a prerequisite for launching Cobra. There is also commentary on the struggle Montgomery was having in the Caen sector with his different operations. The maps are also good. They're the traditional color maps but they're populated with many cities and villages as well as the unit symbols facing each other. There are five 2 dimensional maps and two 3 dimensional maps. The 2-D maps cover: the Allied line on July 25th, the Cobra plan, the Cobra Breakthrough, Briton Ports and reaching the Seine. These two page 3-D maps are especially helpful for the key battle areas are not placed in the crease where you can't read the details. The map of the counterattack at Mortain is busy but with careful study, can be followed.Besides the maps, there is a wealth of good photos, especially of tanks but that should not be surprising. There are also three 2-page color illustrations that are interesting. With so much coverage of the operation, there wasn't room for "Retrospect" but Mr Zaloga does making some closing remarks as he finishes up his commentary on reaching Paris. The book closes with "Further Reading" and a Index. If you have an interest in Normandy and the breakout, this book is certainly worth reading. The author has also written "D-Day", "Lorraine 1944", "Battle of the Bulge" and "Remagen 1945" which are worthy sequels.

There are certain authors that readers can trust to deliver excellent military history, and Steven J Zaloga is one of them. In his latest title for Osprey, Zaloga covers the American-led breakout from the Normandy bridgehead in July-August 1944 that sent Hitler's armies reeling back across France. While Zaloga has done a good job summarizing the main points of Martin Blumenson's authoritative official history of Operation Cobra, he has provided additional value by including input from more recent scholarship on specific facets of the campaign, such as the impact of tactical air power. In accordance with the Osprey Campaign series format, the book starts with a section on the background to the campaign and includes a campaign chronology. Zaloga provides good insight into the debilitated state of the Wehrmacht units and the rising competence of US units in the section on opposing forces. The section on opposing commanders is adequate, but French General Leclerc who made a contribution in the campaign is omitted, while non-involved characters such as Montgomery are included. On the German side, Panzer Lehr's Fritz Bayerlein should also have been included. The section on opposing plans is adequate but more mention of how ULTRA shaped Allied planning should have been included. The order of battle is a bit skimpy because it only addresses division-size units from both sides that participated in the initial phase of Cobra; American non-divisional assets such as independent tank, tank destroyer and artillery units should have been added. Nevertheless, Zaloga succeeds in providing fresh insights into material that is well worn, if not always well covered. Certainly he makes good points on Allied superiority in communications and logistics which are not viewed as "sexy" by some armchair historians who prefer to stress comparative tank statistics and such. The maps are quite good in this volume. There are five 2-D maps, depicting: the theater situation on 24 July 1944, the plan for Cobra, the breakthrough on 25-30 July, the race through Brittany and the pursuit to the Seine. Unfortunately, there were no 2-D maps of the Mortain counterattack or the Falaise pocket. There are only two 3-D Birds-eye-view maps in this volume: the carpet-bombing of the Panzer Lehr Division and the Mortain counterattack (which is too small and difficult to understand). There are three excellent battle scenes: the carpet bombing of Panzer Lehr, US tanks in the breakout and Panther tanks in the Mortain counterattack. The photographs provided are also excellent, particularly if one enjoys viewing destroyed German vehicles and their dead occupants (there are no photographs of US casualties). Overall, the text is cleanly-written and the campaign narrative fits well together. Zaloga also makes a good connection between Operation Cobra's breakout and the landings in southern France; often Operation Dragoon gets short shrift in the Normandy saga, but Zaloga effectively points out the inherent linkage between the campaigns and how it precipitated the German collapse in the West. Zaloga has marshaled the available facts well and there is little controversy in this book, although there are a few issues open to some debate. First, the actual effect of Allied airpower on the campaign was clearly significant but difficult to quantify. Zaloga seems to lean toward accepting all or most Allied claims for destruction of German vehicles, whereas some new research suggests the direct losses were not as large. Zaloga also accepts claims that most of the German divisions retreating from Normandy were "virtually destroyed," when this usually only refers to the combat elements. In each case, Zaloga might have advised the reader that other sources disagree with the extent of damage to German units. Another issue concerns the culpability for the defeat on the German side; Zaloga places most of the blame squarely on SS General Paul Hausser for poorly deploying his units and then making a hash of the withdrawal. Field Marshal von Kluge and the rest of the German leadership - aside from Hitler - appear almost blameless. This interpretation looks like the creation of an SS scapegoat by Wehrmacht officers, particularly given that Operation Cobra occurred only five days after the failed plot to kill Hitler. While Hausser's leadership of 7th Army was probably not the greatest, the German defeat in Operation Cobra was not due only (or mostly) to his mistakes. Additionally, the lack of any information on US losses in the campaign also appears to deprive this account of some balance. There is also one mistake in the text, when Zaloga states that, "the 2nd SS Panzer Division commander was killed by a US patrol near his command post." In fact, Heinz Lammerding, commander of "Das Reich," was wounded in late July but returned to duty later in the year. Aside from these points, this is a fine summary volume.

Excellent book

Great overview of the action from both sides. It really helped me write my paper for school. It was also a fun read for myself.

An excellent inroduction to the campaign.

Loved it. Timeless message; great reminder for anyone who might be at a crossroads (or not). Inspires courage to live one's life.

I picked up a copy of this book because my students were reading it for their English class and I like to throw them off by slipping literary references into Algebra class. I figured it was a short book, it wouldn't take along time, and it would give me a sense for what they were learning in their other classes (and maybe spark some cross-curricular ideas!)Oh man, was that a mistake. It didn't do any of those things (and apparently kids these days don't actually read their summer reading, what a shame). Instead, I fell deeply in love with this book and have read it three times in the last two years. It's the kind of book that works on more than one level - you have your hero who goes on an adventure, learning from a wise mentor, hitting roadblocks, coming to know himself and the world around him before realizing that his true treasure was in himself all along, and if that's all you get out of the book, then that's fine, but there's more going on here. The difficulty of the book is figuring out what that more is. The book constantly suggests and hints at lessons that seem at once a comment on ethics and metaphysics, history and anthropology, post-colonialist critique and folk fairy tale. Biblical allusions abound next to Islamic lessons on the nature of God while institutions and mysticism are equally likely to be evoked and revoked. There's always the sense as you read that there is something lingering under the surface, but the minute that you try to grab it (or write it in a review) it seems to disappear. That seems to be the point of the book, that the message is clear if you read it without trying to grab it. Hold it loosely and it comes easily, try to describe it and it flits away. The book is allusive; it works on you without seeming to, and at the end you're left both satisfied as the adventure concludes and also wanting more, or perhaps wanting to do more. Perhaps that's why I like this book so much - it doesn't yield its secrets easily, or perhaps it yields it too easily, and you finish wondering where your heart and your treasure lie and what your personal legend might be. I imagine that this book might say more about its reader than its text: when you know your own heart and your own journey well enough, perhaps this will only remain a passing, although enjoyable fairy tale.

So, I'm on a part of my life right now where I'm 25. A year fresh after graduating, and have a new found love and appreciation for books. I'm in such a place where I'm trying to discover what I am supposed to do. I'm a spiritual person, and I really felt that this book is talking to me. I'm sure everyone would resonate differently with the book. But the theme and the message is there.I'm not done reading it yet, but when I started. I read like the first 80 pages nonstop. Really soak in the message and lessons. I can't wait to finish this book.EDIT:So, I finally finished the book. And wow, never would have I thought, a book would have such an impact on me. It's a simple tale but filled with lessons if you are seeking it. I read it in like 3 sittings. I'm not much of a reader and just starting to appreciate it, and I am glad this was one of the books I read. Love it.

I purchased and began reading this book 2 years ago and, for whatever reason, I couldn't get into it. I found it incredibly dull and tedious and finally gave up halfway through.A few weeks ago I took my mother to a dental appointment and opened my Kindle to see what I had available while I waited. I decided to give this book another try and started from the beginning, as I couldn't remember anything from what I read previously. I'm not sure what was different this time around, but I was completely engrossed and my 2 hour wait flew by! I continued to read whenever I found a chance and finished it within a few days. I now find myself constantly thinking of the story and relating it to my own life, as well as my friends and family. It's a short and very simple story, but definitely worth reading!

A book with an overwhelming number of positive reviews was surely bound to be a great read, or above average at worst. Boy was I wrong. It's definitely up on the list of worst books I've read. Fortunately, I learned a lesson far greater than what the book could teach me; Amazon reviews do not determine the quality of a story.

This book was a poorly written schlock of new age rubbish. It started out ok but then about the 10th time “Personal Legend” was teferenced it lost me. The narrative is ok until the boy leaves the crystal store and then it’s just unreadable. I really don’t see anything deep or profound here other than persevere I guess and you’ll get what you want. Whatever.

This is literally where it all began, my story intertwined so thoroughly with that of the young sheepherder that I was mesmerized and unable to put it down. If you look through my purchase list you will see I didn't stop here - I became obsessed with Paulo Coelho's work and have purchased almost all of his writings. This is my go to gift for all friends, acquaintances, and family members. Words that can be cherished a lifetime and continually brought back to throughout your journey. Do not hesitate to purchase this. SERIOUSLY! If you are on this page considering, BUY IT NOW. It will awaken pieces of you that you are certainly ready for. Welcome to the journey :)

To put it simply, this book changed my life. The author is overtly religious, and even though I am not, I admire the messages of this story in my own way. I think that this book would have had a profound influence on me no matter what state (good or bad) my life was in when I read it, and I would recommend it to anyone. There were many parts that I read over two or three times -- not because I didn't understand, but I was so amazed that I found myself wanting to experience a passage again. The vendor that I purchased from, Bullet's' Bonanza's, was extremely kind and professional, including a personal note in the package. I would gladly do business with them again.

It seemed like this book was written for a sixth grader. Did not live up to the hype.

If you want to improve your piano playing, this is an excellent book! Exercises that strengthen your fingers, challenge coordination, timing, speed, etc. Not for someone who gets easily bored, because like all exercises, they can be tedious. If you are serious about improving, stick with it!

Chances are if you've taken piano lessons, you've come across this book at some point. Just to be different, I'll explain this book to you by age:Under 10: So many notes. So boring. Very chance of wrist injury. This book is premature for a little kid unless they want a reference for scales. If you practice daily or even a few times a week, with a few scales here and there, chances are your hands are in good enough shape that you don't really need this book.10-14: Time to separate the wheat from the chaff! Now that you can read music really well, you can focus on the techniques in the book. You should be able to understand what each exercise is trying to improve, instead of fixating on getting the notes right. This will help you get to a higher level if you can read music well and want your playing to sound better.14-18: You should get this book if you're looking to take music exams or study music in university, OR you want to spite your piano teacher's stupid jerky student that plays sonatinas really well or shows great agility in his or her technique. Or if you want to date someone that's really impressed by arpeggios. Otherwise, don't torment yourself and go play something enjoyable instead. You will eventually learn to love some of the genres (jazz, baroque, contemporary) that your teachers made you learn, but you will never come to love this book.18+: If you've been out of lessons for a few years and are getting back into piano, it's worth picking this up to speed up your transition back into playing regularly. It will help if you can tell that you don't sound as good as you used to.

I am amazed at my progress since tackling these exercises. They appeared difficult when I first received it, so I put it on a shelf and promptly forgot about it for several months. As my sight reading improved somewhat, I chanced across it and decided to make the effort to play at least a few of the exercises. Now I am playing the first 31 exercises on an almost daily basis. I doubt I will ever have the chops to play some of the more difficult exercises that appear in Part III, but I have definitely progressed in the few months that I have been playing them. At first, I did not look forward to what appeared to be dry exercises in octaves, (the left hand mirrors the same notes in the right hand). The reason the octave interval is chosen is to immediately alert the ear in the event of not striking the notes either accurately or together, while learning the exercise. The reward for this effort is encountered in exercise 31, where the hands are moved apart by an octave and a third. Once mastered, you can do this with any of the foregoing exercises and the effect is used again in some of the later exercises. The effect is quite beautiful and variations of it appear throughout the piano repertoire. One annoying thing is that the edition is not spiral bound. I took mine to FedEx to have it spiral bound,as you do a lot of page flipping if you decide to go for it...

There has been some argument regarding the value of Hanon exercises. I don't belong to either of the extreme camps, but use Hanon to address weaknesses in technique, not to become a Hanon expert (for example, I don't agree with the advice that the entire 60 exercises be played every day -- sheesh!). I recommend playing Nos. 1-10 as warmups and Nos. 42, 43 regularly, then picking and choosing other exercises to suit whatever difficulties crop up along the way. Might as well buy the complete edition rather than separate Vols. I, II, III, as it's quite inexpensive. Take it to Kinko's or Staples to have it spiral-bound for ease of use.

Yee-gads! The print looks like it's been copied over 1,000 times and is very difficult for me as I wear bifocals. The print looks pretty small and causes eye strain. The cover and binding is good quality so it appears to be relatively durable. The open type spine is essential for practing the scores, and remaining open Trust me...you don't want a regular book style. I wish I would have bought something from local music store so I could have inspected it better. I am keeping it and may replace it at a later time. I have heard there is a Hanon book you can download and print out that is very nice and larger more readable notes.

First time I've used this book in forty years. I've just used it for 10-15 minutes for two weeks, and my piano playing has already improved immensely. Don't wait for forty years! Get this book now, and use it! I'm a jazz musician, by the way, and cannot read much besides chords and melody lines. But no matter. If you play piano--or "keyboards"--this will greatly enhance the way your hands interact with the keys.

Provided that you work hard, you'll notice improvement super quick. As any teacher would tell you, start at a slow tempo, with a mentronome, and only speed up once you are able to produce a smooth in-time sound.I find the repetitiveness of the exercises quite soothing. I believe they are actually a great form of meditation.Happy piano playing!

Just a warning to all you beginners reading this book..... I’m not sure what everyone else is seeing in this book, and perhaps I’m already too advanced to appreciate the simplicity, but I’m only up to chapter 3 and I keep wondering if this book was a Chinese import or something. It’s full of typos and incorrect translations! In chapter 1 the vocabulary at the end of the story has the word “embouteillage” translated as: trafic jam (instead of traffic jam). Canicule is a “heat wave”, not a “hot wave”. Chapter 2 vocabulary: the word ”gendre” is defined as step-son, however, in the story, the mother is discussing her future son-in-law, her “beau-fils”, not her step-son. Chapter 3 vocabulary, “je t’en prie or je vous en prie“ can also mean “you’re welcome”, not just “please” as it’s defined there. As I mentioned, I’ve gotten only as far as Chapter 3 and have discovered these issues. There may be a lot more as I go through this book. Don't get me wrong, it’s a great device for teaching beginning French. The problem is that it’s imperative that the spelling and translations must be perfect when learning a language or the book is misleading every student who reads it.

I am a beginner in French and this is a great resource for reading material that is introductory yet not written in a forced, artificial manner. Each story is written with the purpose of introducing a particular topic and set of vocabulary, and I like that it gives me the chance to learn and review material I already know in context. The only thing I wish that was different is the table of contents- because this is a book I plan to return to many times to repeat the stories, it would be more helpful if the titles were in the table of contents. For those interested, the 20 topics/chapters are:1. Basic Vocabulary2. Time and Units3. Basic Introductions and Simple Conversations4. Pronouns5. Numbers6. Adjectives7. Verbs (Infinitive)8. Adverbs9. Directions10. Formal and Informal Conversations11. Time Date and Weather12. Food and Drinks13. Professions and Hobbies14. Action Verbs15. Masculine and Feminine16. Homonyms and Homophones17. Past and Future18. Shopping and Ordering19. Everyday Tasks20. Basic Vocabulary Part 2

This book is more intermediate than beginner. I got overwhelmed and had to quit after chapter 4. Too much referencing google translate, even though each story has its own vocabulary section. Beginner to me would be “The cat walks into the house. The cat climbs on the couch.” etc. Simple short sentences in the present tense, and no idioms, expressions, or tricky word combinations. The stories are too long and too advanced.I threw down the book when I encountered this sentence at the end of chapter 4: “ Tu ferais bien de t’y mettre tout de suite si tu veux avoir un peu de temps pour jouer." That’s a lot to lay on a “beginner.” Conditional tense, reflexive, and idioms all in one sentence. Eventually one has to learn those things, yes, but this is a step above beginner. Also, as basic as my French skills are, I did pick up on some errors and typos, as other reviewers have pointed out. My search for a good learning resource continues...

This is a fun book for beginners and advanced beginners. The vocabulary is accessible and repeats enough that the reader becomes comfortable with the new words. The increasingly difficult grammar is introduced slowly enough so that the reader’s confidence grows as each new concept is introduced. One takeaway I’ve noticed is that my reading speed and comprehension improved the more I got into the stories.Last is a suggestion for improvement. Particularly since french is not very phonetic, I think it would improve the quality of the book to include a downloadable audio file. All in all, I’m very happy with the book.

This is a fantastic tool for improving your French on any level. While I consider myself "almost fluent" in French I was entertained and enlightened by this material. I reaffirmed what I already knew and discovered a few surprises as well as correcting a few faux pas I had been making for years. Would love to see an intermediate or advanced level of this book.

If you are tired of the boring and mundane way of learning a new language, then this book is for you. You can use this book to learn French in a fun and engaging way using short stories. Short stories capture your imagination and help you learn vocabulary in a new fun and innovative way. A really great book for learning new vocabulary for French.

Like any book written with teaching intent, there's a certain artificiality to the stories, but overall they're enjoyable and the book itself is helpfully structured. Good practice and worth the money.

Because each of the stories in the book focuses on a particular point in French grammar, the book provides an enjoyable way to learn the language. I especially like "Le Bouc Emissaire"!
